Kasárna Karlín – beer in a cultural courtyard

Kasárna Karlín is not really a beer garden. It is a cultural centre set in a huge courtyard of former military barracks, where you can simply stop for a beer and some food or come specifically for one of the events taking place there.

During summer, the courtyard hosts a busy programme of open-air cinema, quizzes, markets and swaps, board-game meetups, workshops and other cultural events. The summer cinema is particularly active, with screenings taking place regularly throughout the season.

Even when nothing special is happening, the courtyard itself is worth visiting for a relaxed drink and its unusual atmosphere. But it is definitely worth checking the programme before you go — you might find a film, event or activity that gives you a reason to stay for the whole evening.

Where to have a beer near Hostel ELF

The summer garden is operating again in 2026, and Distrikt regularly hosts electronic music — especially drum & bass and techno — as well as concerts; some summer events also use the outdoor garden itself. Check the programme before you go, because on the right night a simple beer can easily turn into a club night.

Kabina Bistro & Bar

Kabina is right on the main path across Pražačka between Ohrada and the National Memorial on Vítkov, so it is an easy stop during a walk over the hill. Its garden looks across the greenery towards Žižkov, and unlike a basic beer stand it also serves a proper selection of street-food and fusion dishes, cocktails and other drinks. U Vystřelenýho oka

U Vystřelenýho oka is a different story: this is one of Žižkov’s classic old-school pubs and has been part of the neighbourhood for years. The small courtyard has its own stage and is used for concerts, literary evenings and other events, while inside you get the rough, eccentric atmosphere of an old Žižkov pub rather than a polished modern bar.
