Žižkov – a center of alternative culture in Prague !!
Hostel ELF is situated in the heard of Žižkov, near the city center, 15 minutes walk or 3 stops by bus ( 7 minutes ). Žižkov is sometimes also called Pragues Montmartre. Like many districts of the city, Žižkov today is socioeconomically diverse. Žižkov is place on a hill, most of the street are steep and narrow. It is undergoing a renewal, with many older buildings ( 19th and 20th century ) being reconstructed and restored.
It is a center of nightlife in Prague, full of clubs, bars and cheap restaurants. Žižkov is said to have the highest number of pubs per capita of any city district in Europe, with more than 300. The Palac Akropolis is known as a center of cultural events in the area. The prices in this area where is our hostel situated are two times lower than in the city center and olso is it the great place to meet cool local people.
From the hostel terrace it is really easy to access „ Vítkov Hill “ where is placed the National Monument with giant statue of Jan Žižka on horseback (by Bohumil Kafka, it is the largest equestrian statue in the world ). The park situated on this hill is a favorite place of many Praguers. It is great place for relax or you can easily ride a bike or do a lot of sports activities there. From Vítkov Hill is an amazing view to historical Prague. There is also a muzeum of the Czech Republic with a panaromatic cafeteria. During the communist era it was used to be a mauzoleum there – after the fashion of Russian dictator Lenin, the embalming body of the first communist prezident was placed there.
